For me it’s like going to years back and when I started playing KENTUCKY in 2013. It is really nostalgic for me and I do remember the days when I first started playing this game.
For developing all the 5 parts of this game, developers from Cardboard took almost seven years. However, in the middle of Kentucky, we came across many games like The Walking Dead and Life is Strange but the craze of Kentucky never went.
Many of us would be having almost the same realization remembering this game. The story of the games was on rural America and the professional class worker, their struggles for livelihood and many other things. The situation that was on the game at that was is same that we are still facing in this real world.
That’s how the story begins
The story follows Conway, a truck driver and self-described drifter who delivers antiques. After the tiny antique shop, he works for shuts down, we all follow his delivery 5 Dogwood Drive, a place that no one seems to have heard of, but apparently is located somewhere in an ethereal highway known as the Zero. As Conway hunts for his destination, he is slowly joined by a number of fellow wanderers. The team travels across Kentucky collectively, searching for a place that might or might not exist.
This road trip is full of amazing explorations and you would find a gas station that is empty and the basement is shaped like a horse. KENTUCKY ROUTE ZERO will take you through 5 such stops which are far beyond your thinking. Apart from making puzzles and letting you go through that the game is developed in such a manner that you would have the memories and remember the scenes.
The best part that I remember is the “Museum of dwellings”. I remember the structures even it’s a so long time, which shows the impression that this game leaves on us.
In the whole of the KENTUCKY ROUTE ZERO, I have seen that a building or monument is not as it resembles but they all have something mysterious in it. I never came to realize where the story was going as each and every step led me to a different road which I never expected.
As Conway’s group grows larger, each personality fades in and out of the foreground. At the first action you restrain Conway, but as the story progresses you’ll play unique characters as they take center stage.
As you chat with different NPCs you’re given choices that reflect a character’s internal thoughts and, as you decide which of these can be expressed, it is like you are gradually augmented the personality.
The choices that I used to take in the game was not just a choice but had a deep meaning. The decisions taken by me led a character to that phase where he is really shaken by the past events or has lost. These looked like to me as happening to me. I knew that I was in a game but I really used to feel a connection with the character and I felt like the story of the character is a story of mine.
Kentucky Route Zero is largely an anthology of those tiny tales and you will hear a lot of them through construction descriptions, ghost tales, lore, and mythos. They may be as straightforward as a description of a haunted arcade to as complicated as a character’s full family history. The little and the large all together conjure up a gloomy portrait of rural America and individuals seeking to endure times of financial hardship.
The stories of KENTUCKY are based on the small stories of common men like truck drivers, workers, staff and electricians, and the game has really respected all of them without fail. You would probably not see these types of stories in a game, especially in today’s world where the games like PUBG have taken over the gaming industry and being played all over the world with great interest. Those games have no messages to forward to their users and are more dangerous for people than they think.
However, the games like KRZ provided it, users, a means keeping all the dignities of the games in curated with the life of people and fantasy.
Wrapping it Up
Kentucky Route Zero is a game that tells about the people who fight with the forces that seemed to be very powerful against them. The story is not just a game but the story has to do a lot with the real world-the real people of the United States.
However, there are a mystery, fiction, and history which takes you deep inside the game and understands the real game with small stories in between.…
